Currant cultivation is focused on the growing market of environmentally friendly food products, given the high demand for berries and significant potential in both domestic and foreign markets. Black currants are especially in demand due to their taste and healing properties.
Technology:
- Precinct selection.For planting black currants suitable areas with moist loamy or sandy soil, with a flat surface or small slopes. For red and white currants - well-lit areas with a southern slope.
- Landing.The distance between the bushes is 1.25-1.5 m. If there is a sufficient area, it is better to plant currant in rows with rows of at least 2 m.
- Watering and feeding.Currant likes frequent and abundant watering, fertilizing with organics. The ground under the bushes can not be dug - only carefully loosen.
- Soil tillage.In early spring, the soil is loosened, destroying the crust. This contributes to the preservation of moisture in the soil and improves the air regime in the area of root distribution.
- Formation and pruning of bushes.The bushes begin to form immediately after planting. Immediately after planting, the plants are pruned, leaving four buds above the ground. Annually leave 4-5 best shoots, forming a bush, numbering 20-25 branches of different ages.
Industrial collection of currants is carried out using berry harvesters. During the season, this technique allows you to remove the crop of blackcurrant from an area of 25-30 hectares, replacing the work of 300-350 pickers.
The main requirements for currant varieties suitable for mechanized harvesting:
- high yield;
- resistance to the most common fungal diseases;
- height of the bush - 120-160 cm, width - 140-150 cm, base of the bush - no more than 30 cm;
- simultaneous ripening of berries in the brush (more than 90%);
- the force of separation of berries from the brush in the range of 0.5-1.5 N (50-150 g);
- the force of crushing berries - more than 2 N (200 g);
- Duration of removable maturity - more than 7 days;
- the permissible threshold of damage to bushes in relation to the natural loss of part of the bush - no more than 30% of the dead branches over 6 years of operation.
Cleaning of berries is carried out in dry weather. For industrial processing, currants are collected in boxes of 10-12 kg or more, for the consumer - in containers of no more than 3-5 kg.
Life of industrial plantations currant:
- with manual collection - 7-8 fruit bearings,
- during mechanical harvesting - 5-6 fruiting
At the end of the service life, the plantation is upholstered and written off.
