Strategic Partnership, Trade, Investment: Russia and Tajikistan discussed economic cooperation

On 4 October, the 20th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Tajikistan was held in Dushanbe, under the chairmanship of the Vice-President of the Government of the Russian Federation, Marat Husnollin, and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan, Kohir Rasulzod.

The Ministry of Economy and Development of Russia has ensured the maintenance and organization of the event. The Ministry is coordinated by Deputy Minister Dmitri Volvac.

The Co-Chairs of the Inter-Government Commission stressed the importance of the sustained development of strategic partnerships and alliances, discussed the positive dynamics of mutual trade and the prospects for investment cooperation.

" Russia ranks first among Tajik trade partners, with a share of more than 20 per cent in the trade of the Republic. Mutual trade in goods rose by 3.4 per cent in seven months this year by increasing the supply of minerals, APC products from Russia, textiles, light industry and fertilization products from Tajikistan, noted by Dmitri Volvac.

The meeting addressed key issues of Russia ' s and Tajikistan ' s interaction in the fields of industry, agriculture, and in the areas of peaceful atom, education and cultural and humanitarian relations.

Participants substantively discussed the establishment of a joint Russian-Tajkistan Industrial Park and Light Industry Cluster, practical steps to increase mutual trade. The meeting agreed to the establishment of a subcommission to consider investment cooperation issues. The construction of a centre for gifted children in Dushanbe and the new building of the Russian drama theatre, V. W. Mayakovsky, were also addressed.

Special attention was paid to tourism development. Since the beginning of the year, Russians have made 154,400 trips to Tajikistan, an increase of 15 per cent. The implementation of the road map between the Ministry of Economic Development and the tourism development committee under the Government of Tajikistan will further deepen cooperation in this area.

Parties noted the mutual interest in promoting digital cooperation, in particular in promising areas such as e-government, information security and Internet trade.

" Today, Tajikistan is a promising area for Russian IT companies. We are ready to share our experiences in developing high-tech projects with our partners and to contribute to their efforts to digitally transform the Republic " , underlined by Dmitri Volvac.

The signing of the Economic Cooperation Programme between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan for the period 2024-2027 was a milestone in the inter-laws convention. To develop the programme, a draft plan of activities for its implementation has been prepared, as well as a plan to increase the volume of trade between countries. Their implementation will increase bilateral trade by 2.5 times by 2030.

Memoranda have also been signed on the margins of the event, which will create new opportunities for cooperation in the field of digitalization and Internet commerce.
