The number of medium-sized companies in Russia has reached a record

There are almost 21,000 medium companies operating in Russia. This is the highest in comparison with the previous periods, from 2017 to 2024, reported to " News " in Mineconom Development (Minack) on 11 March. Over the year, their number increased by more than 2,000.

" Although medium-sized enterprises represent only 1 per cent of the total number of legal entities, their contribution to the economy is substantial. They provide employment to 12 per cent of SMEs and generate 18 per cent of all tax revenues in the sector. The total income of enterprises in the aftermath of 2023 was 17.34 trillion roubles " , noted the Deputy Minister of Economic Development of Russia, Tatiana Ilouchnikov.

Most of these enterprises are in Moscow (24 per cent of the total number of medium-sized enterprises), St. Petersburg (8%) and Moscow (6%). There has been an increase in the number of such companies in the Krasnodar Krai and Sverdlov region (3 per cent).

The largest share is concentrated in trade (33%), production (23 percent), construction (10 percent), agriculture (8 percent), transport and storage (6 percent). The share of medium-sized enterprises in manufacturing is three times higher than that of SMEs in manufacturing.

Medium-sized companies include organizations that work between 101 and 250 persons and profits are between 0.8 and 2 billion roubles per year. Entities cross the SME border if the organization ' s income is 2 billion roubles a year and 251 people and more.

Previously, on 7 March, it was reported that in 2024, small and medium-sized businesses in Russia had attracted record 1.18 trillion roubles through State support through the National Guarantee System. This was 8 per cent higher than in 2023 in the SME Corporation. Manufacturing (252.9 billion roubles), construction (236,7 billion roubles), science and technology (81.5 billion roubles) have become leaders.
