The "Battle of Chemists" on Science Day was held in Yaroslavl.

The intellectual and creative battle "Battle of Chemists" was held at V.V. Tereshkova School No. 32, dedicated to the 190th anniversary of Dmitry Mendeleev and the Day of Russian Science. It was attended by 36 students of grades 8-9 as part of nine teams from eight schools in the city. – The intellectual and creative battle "Battle of Chemists" contributes to the solution of several tasks of the national project "Education" initiated by Russian President Vladimir Putin

This is the identification of gifted and talented schoolchildren, the development of their cognitive interests in the field of chemistry, career guidance for children and the popularization of chemical sciences," said Svetlana Astafyeva, First Deputy Minister of Education of the Yaroslavl Region. – In secondary school No. 32, which is the organizer of this event, the Mendeleev Classes project is being successfully implemented, within which students of grades 10-11 of the natural science profile study chemistry and biology at an advanced level.

Elena Tereshkova, Vice-president of the V.V. Tereshkova Charitable Foundation, spoke with parting words to the participants of the competition: – School No. 32 fostered a love for science and research from a world–famous graduate, Valentina Vladimirovna Tereshkova. Thanks to her initiative, the Mendeleev and space classes have been opened at the school, focused on in-depth study of subjects of natural science and technology profiles.

Students of the 32nd school have the opportunity to gain knowledge at leading universities in Yaroslavl and Moscow. In the coming days, the next cycle of "University Saturdays" will open, and in March the Olympiad "Start to the Future" will take place. The "Battle of the Chemists" included four battles. In the first, the participants presented the name of the team in any form, as well as a photo prepared in advance on the topic "Chemical Yaroslavl" and explained the importance of the facility for the region.

In the intellectual battle, the children were waiting for a quiz on chemistry and the biography of D.I. Mendeleev. – I have been interested in chemistry since I was six years old, went to preparatory clubs, participated in Olympiads. I want to connect my life with chemistry and biology. My whole family is chemists, and my grandmother and grandfather. I'm going to enter the Mendeleev class – this is a great opportunity for me, I really want to study chemistry better," said Roman Yershov, a student at school No. 32. – I'm very worried today, we need to defend the honor of our school.

I hope to learn a lot of new things and get to know students of other schools who are interested in chemistry. The creative battle involved the implementation and defense of a mini-project on chemical topics, discussion with other participants and answers to questions.

At the final experimental battle, the guys had to conduct an experiment based on a given case. – I am very pleased with the appearance of a new project that unites children who are interested in studying such a complex but very important science – chemistry. I am sure that the "Battle of Chemists" will continue, and next year even more children and chemistry teachers will join us," said Olga Kopeina, director of secondary school No. 32
